A few weeks ago, Tom Iredale underwent emergency brain and open heart surgery due to complications from persistent endocarditis. After weeks spent in the hospital, he recovered enough to go home, where he spent two weeks recovering and living life normally again.
On Wednesday morning, he awoke with a headache and visual problems. Halfway to the Emergency Department, he seized and lost consciousness. The neurosurgeons at Lankenau Hospital identified a massive subdural hematoma and a hemorrhagic stroke within his occipital lobe. An emergency hemicraniectomy was performed, but he never again regained consciousness after losing it Wednesday morning. Doctors at both Lankenau and Penn said there was zero chance he would ever return to us given the extent of brain herniation and damage that had occurred.
On Saturday, October 15, while surrounded by his family, the difficult decision was made to remove Tom from the ventilator and he peacefully passed into his eternal rest. He was 62 years old.
Our family and friends are devastated by this sudden loss. Tom was a loving, genuine man who touched the lives of so many with his selfless dedication to others and unrelenting love for his family, friends, and the entire Conestoga community.
Tom was a former nationally ranked wrestler at Germantown Academy. He was a volunteer coach and Board Member of the Conestoga Youth Wrestling Association where he passionately coached hundreds of young boys over the years.
His children, Daniel and Rachel, his ex-wife Kim, his girlfriend Dawn, and the rest of his family are overwhelmed and thankful for all the telephone calls, texts, and prayers they have received in the last few days.
Countless people have reached out, wondering how they can help the Iredale family during this difficult time. This Go Fund Me will help cover the medical and funeral expenses associated with Tom's sudden and devastating passing.
The Memorial Service for Thomas E. Iredale will be held Saturday, October 22 at 11 AM at Washington Memorial Chapel, Route 23, Valley Forge Park with a reception to follow in the William White Library on the chapel grounds. Information on a live stream will be coming at a later date
