Tom Hyde (UT-Martin, 1986) endowed the Tom and Yukari Hyde Global Scholars Program in 2007 in order to fund international educational opportunities for students at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Tom, who grew up in a small town in West Tennessee, first went abroad at age 14, and he fell in love with global travel - in his 55 years, he explored over 100 countries. In particular, Japan captured his heart; he met his wife Yukari there while he studied abroad. He was proud to be one of the first pair of UTM students to ever study at Hirosaki University in Japan (the attached picture is from his first trip to Japan).
Tom passed away on May 17, 2018. Tom was known and loved by so many, including people across the globe. One of his great joys was giving the gift of cultural appreciation to future generations at his alma mater, by offering the Tom and Yukari Hyde Global Scholarship to UTM students, particularly those who wanted to study abroad in Asia. He was always heart-warmed by the thank you cards he received from the students who were able to see the world as a result of his generosity. Since starting the program in 2007, he's gifted $95,000 and over 100 students have been the beneficiaries of his scholarship.
To honor his memory, the family asks that you help continue his dream by making a memorial donation to the Tom and Yukari Hyde Global Scholarship at the University of Tennessee-Martin. All proceeds from this campaign will be donated to the university.
<故人の遺志> ウェストテネシーのとても小さな町で育ったトムハイドは、世界を夢見て14歳で初めてスペインに留学しました。その後も台湾や香港に留学し、亜細亜の国々に大きな興味を持ちました。 テネシー大学マーティン校の 第一号交換留学生として弘前大学へ留学し、国際基督教大学にて修士号を取得し、日本で妻のゆかりと出逢いました。 10ヶ国語を勉強し、世界旅行を愛し約100ヶ国を旅しました。 世界中に多くの友人を持ち、愛されています。 自分がした素晴らしい経験を、是非次世代の学生にも体験して欲しいと言う想いから、母校テネシー大学マーティン校にて、留学を希望する学生の為に、2007年に「トムとゆかりハイド・グローバル奨学金制度」を設立しました。今までに100人以上の若者の、海外留学をサポートしています。 お通夜や葬儀の為に、もしも供花をお考え頂いているのであれば、供花の代わりに、故人の意志を引き継いで、遺族は「トムとゆかりハイド・グローバル奨学金制度」に記念寄付をして頂く事を願っております。 このキャンペーンの収入は、すべてテネシー大学マーティン校に寄付されます。若い学生達が世界に羽ばたき、夢を叶えてくれることを願っています。故人の遺志にご賛同頂けましたら幸いです。
