Hello Everyone,
Recently the veterinary community suffered the devastating loss of a very dear friend and colleague of ours Dr. Tom Gutteridge (OVC 2013).
Those of you that knew Tom, knew he was a gentle giant, quick in wit, always ready to make you laugh and there for anyone who needed him day or night. He had a longing for adventure and always wanted to live life to the fullest everyday. Whenever he took on a task whether it was to celebrate the end of exams with his housemates, or go out to a farm call to visit an animal in need, he did it with passion, commitment and a wonderful sense of humor.
To honor his memory, the OTS fraternity community has partnered with the OVC alumni association to donate to the University of Guelph Arboretum in order to establish a Memorial Tree and Bench in Tom's name. Since Tom was often very involved in many of the OTS charity events, including the yearly Dog Jog they host, we are specifically looking to find a location on the arboretum path where the OTS Dog Jog will pass by each year so that members for years to come can visit, wave hello on their way through or spend some time after the Jog reminiscing about Tom and his time with us. The donation level that will allow us to dedicate both a tree and bench in his honour is $10,000 (the established tree itself with plaque will cost around $5000 and the bench another $5000).
For anyone who would like to contribute to this cause, we are establishing two methods of donating to this fund. One is this gofundme page for those who prefer online donations, and the other is a tribute fund through the OVC alumni association (link for that to come in the next week) for those who are donating in a different currency or who would prefer to donate via alternative methods (such as cheque or over the phone). Both accounts will be monitored weekly until we get to our goal (at which time they will be combined into the Alumni Association account and the money will go directly to the Arboretum). Any amount you can give would be sincerely appreciated as it will help us get to our goal for a place to remember Tom for years to come.
Tom you were a wonderful friend, the best Oatie Brother and truly one of a kind You will be so greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing your kind, thoughtful, selfless spirit. Till we meet again my friend <3
