Tom Ferris Memorial Fund

Willard “Tom” Ferris Jr.

On March 8th 2017, the lives of countless family and friends became forever affected by the sudden death of my brother Tommy.   A devoted son, father, husband, brother, nephew and friend Tommy will be remembered and will have changed the lives of many of us.   He leaves his wife Malia and 14 year old son Sean.  This fund has been established in helping his family with medical bills, burial costs and for Tommy’s son Sean’s future education.  Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

After working many years in construction Tommy began working as a trailer truck driver for Pepsi Cola’s Epic Enterprises in Ayer Ma. often driving 500 miles a day and reaching the 1,250,000 mile mark.  He was married to his wife Malia in 2000 and together they had their son Sean in 2003.  Although Tommy worked a schedule that would see him up by 2:30am most days and putting in a solid 12 hour day at least five days a week it never stopped him from being the devoted husband and father that he was.  Most weekends he would be either working around the house doing different projects he was so proud of or just playing catch or shooting baskets with his son Sean.  If I was forced to use one word to describe my brother that best fit him as a person it would be he was Selfless and a people pleaser.

In Go Fund Me’s instructions for best fundraisers they say do not bore your readers with too much information.  I am certain for those who knew Tom the best, that the amount of content in this description is anything but boring.

Although my brother Tommy was a junior there was nothing junior looking about him. I always lacked in most we ever did together whether that be being an inch shorter, or not being able to throw a baseball or football quite as far as he could.

Over the years since I was born and getting to know him with his being older than me by 13 months some things became apparent to me. One is that he was a protector of all things that he loved and would go to any length to protect those things he cherished.  As time went on Tommy continued to give of himself to charitable causes whether that be by donating his time in offering to drive the large truck and trailer to pick up a donated half pipe for what would become the beginning of the Andover Youth Skate Park in Andover, Mass.  Continuing in that mode of giving when the time came that our family’s holiday decorating company was donating to the Make a Wish foundations annual Christmas Party at Logan Airports Delta Airlines, Tommy did not even skip a beat in offering to be part of the decorating crew.

Most recently when Andover Youth Services in Andover finally realized its goal of building the Cormier Youth center Tommy was there again donating his time to helping by delivering materials and operating a Bobcat loader to move around different materials for the final parts of the project.

When the Patriots won their most recent championship again Tom was their exemplifying who he is by wearing the now infamous “Do Your Job” hat while taking his son Sean to the stadium to share in some of the festivities following the win.  Sean and his basketball team went on to win their playoff game and championship game just last week, games of which his Dad would never miss.

It was Toms same selflessness that would see him as he grew older become part of who he was.  The fact that over a month has gone by since his passing we cannot even begin to as a family comprehend.  The amount of emotional support as a family we have received from family and friends will not for a day be forgotten.
