For those who know Tom DeGree, you know he is a lifetime educator and advocate. He is someone with an unparalleled compassion for ALL people, especially those who are under-served.
On October 26th, Tom was in terrible a car accident near Brainerd. He was airlifted to North Memorial trauma center where he immediately went into a 5 hr surgery. During the surgery the Drs had to amputate his right leg below the knee. In addition, he has multiple fractures and massive abdominal trauma with many surgeries ahead.
Dean has not left Toms side since the accident. In their 20 years together, this will be their most trying times. There will be the obvious initial needs of Tom healing and the mounting hospital bills, but there are long term considerations. Tom and Dean will need to find their "new normal." They will need money to help compensate for the loss of work, rehabilitation, on-going therapy and to help make their house accessible for Tom when he returns home.
The outpouring of support has been beautiful. It shows what we all know - Tom has always shown up for us. It’s time we return the favor.
