Health update on Tom D’Antoni:

Tom’s medical team recently discovered a tumor in Tom’s pancreas during a recent cat scan and MRI (which he had to wait 4 months to get due to compatibility problems between his pacemaker and MRI machines). Fortunately, it's not the guaranteed fatal kind.
The oncologist told Tom to come back in six months and reevaluate if it's still there and recommend several non-surgical treatments at that time.

After enduring many setbacks, Tom FINALLY got accepted into the Oregon/County/City program for disabled seniors which is providing caregiving, rides and other daily necessities.

Tom recently went to The Alberta Rose Theatre to hear some music, thanks to his friend Stephanie who gave him a ride. This was the first social outing for Tom in many months!

Now all Tom has to do is to be able to walk. He still has MULTIPLE challenges going forward, yet he is committed to doing his weekly radio show every Friday night at KMHD; showcasing and supporting local artists.

Tom’s biggest challenge is getting his car fixed so he can drive again.

Tom hasn’t had any new clothes in years! (Would someone like to take him shopping?)

Tom needs a new desk so he can continue to write and other miscellaneous necessities.

Please consider supporting Tom by making a contribution to his GoFundMe. Every dollar helps.

Thank you,

Update

Good morning dear friends,
Tom is back in the hospital again this time with complications relating to having Covid.

Last Monday he was taken by ambulance to the hospital after being disoriented, confused and unable to speak clearly.

Doctors conducted several tests, but are still unsure of his new onset of symptoms.
More testing has been scheduled. Unfortunately Tom is unable to get treatment for Covid due to his pacemaker and all the other medications he is on.

This is just another blow to his almost year-long struggle with numerous, unsuccessful (and painful) back surgeries.

Tom hopes to be released in the coming week but will need Home Care following his release. He has a caretaker, but funds for his services are running out.

Please consider donating to his GoFundMe. Your contributions help him to survive. Despite all that he has been going through, he is still committed to doing his weekly show at KMHD.

Tom is so appreciative and grateful to all of his friends and fans for their tremendous support these last few months.

Please keep that love coming. Thank you! ❤️

Update

Good morning friends,

Many of you have asked how our dear friend Tom D’Antoni is doing and so here’s an update:

It’s been quite a struggle for Tom. His back is still not fixed despite 3 failed attempts to repair it. In addition to his injury Tom recently was told he needs corneal scrapes due to muscle degeneration.

Earlier this year, Tom’s car was struck and totaled by a hit and run driver while he was at the coast where he was assisting at the Seaside Jazz & Blues Festival.
Tom was devastated as this was his only means of transportation to get to doctor appointments, physical therapy appointments and the store.

Thanks to this campaign, Tom was able to use $1500 of the GoFundMe to purchase a used 1996 Volvo to get around.

Tom has a caregiver that has tremendously helped him but he can no longer afford him after using funds towards his car, groceries, bills and daily expenses and necessities. He cannot get around on his own and relies on his caregiver for household tasks, laundry, grocery shopping and more. He is still in pain and discomfort and is hoping another round of pain injections and physical therapy will help until his doctors figure out the next course of treatment.

Despite all of his medical expenses and financial difficulties, Tom still tries to do what he does best; to promote musicians through his weekly radio shows at KMHD.

As he puts it “The show must go on…”

Tom would NEVER ask for help yet has helped so many musicians and artists launch their careers and support their music.

He is in dire need of our help.

Your support can help him with his caregiving needs while he awaits more treatment for his back.

Please donate if you can, or share the GoFundMe with others.

Thank you, Tracy Campaign Organizer

Update
Tuesday 3/19/24

Tom continues to struggle with chronic pain following two failed surgeries. In addition, physical therapy caused further damage instead of healing his pain.
To top things off, Tom’s vehicle was destroyed this last weekend by a hit and run driver while he was volunteering at the Seaside Jazz & Blues Festival to help his friends, Greg and Carrie Bond.
Tom has limited insurance and is now without transportation. He is in desperate need of a replacement used vehicle.
Please help Tom if you’re able to. Every little bit helps.
Thank you!

Update on our dear friend KMHD DJ Tom D’Antoni
October 24th, 2022
From Tom;
Current situation:
My January surgery was successful. His June back surgery has been less so, although I have been told to give it a few more months.

In the meantime, I am going to have steroid back injections soon and perhaps, if they don't work, nerve deadening injections.

Since the June back surgery I have been paying for a caregiver to help me with things I can't do myself (moving the shower chair, picking up groceries, cleaning and doing a million other things.

Lucky for me, my caregiver, Ian Cottingham, is also a neighbor and a friend.

I recently got a grant from the Jeremy Wilson Foundation to help pay him for the next couple of months.

It's been quite a struggle. I am grateful for all of your help (and Tracy’s of course). Without the GoFundMe, I wouldn't have been able to keep doing my work. It's not over yet, but I'm fighting to regain my health and mobility.

Thank you!
Tom

The latest update on KMHD DJ Tom D’Antoni:

Tom has been slowly recovering from his recent urological surgery but the long road to wellness is still far away.

On Wednesday June 8th, Tom will undergo One Gill-type laminectomy + decompression surgery(removing a bone, but no fusion).

His recovery will be long; approximately 6 weeks and will be unable to work.

At that time we will activate the meal train again for those of you who’ve asked.

While Tom’s spirits are high (thanks to the amazing support of friends and fans) this new surgery brings a lot of unknowns.

Please continue to help him through this next hurdle in his quest for wellness so he can continue his dream of promoting and playing music for our music community.

Thank you!
Tracy

3. Have Myelogram and CT scheduled for April 5 4. First appointment with physical therapist April 13
5. Seeing back surgeon after he looks at the imaging TBA
6. Surgery TBA

Meanwhile, I am pretty much housebound unless I have someone with me.

Thank you all once again for your support.

Facing back surgery is scary. My goal is to be able to go to the Blues Festival. Who knows?

Greetings Music Community,

I am fundraising for one of Portland's greatest music supporters, veteran Portland journalist and d.j. Tom D’Antoni, who has recently been stricken with serious health issues.
Tom has been working in the music industry since 1970—mostly as a journalist in print, television, radio and the internet. He is currently editor-in-chief of Oregon Music News, a publication his team launched twelve years ago. He also hosts a weekly radio show on KMHD fm in Portland.

Tom spent five days in the hospital last month during which he received treatment for a urological problem that has currently left him with a catheter. He was also diagnosed with heart failure as well as a fractured lumbar—the latter being a chronic problem he’s been unable to address because of his other intervening physical problems.

Since then Tom has had two more trips to the hospital, and he recently suffered a fall that has caused him severe mobility issues. In addition, his catheter makes it extremely difficult to navigate around his apartment or drive his vehicle. Tom's apartment is not ADA-friendly, and he's unable to navigate the 8 or 9 steps needed to leave his building. (Eventually, he'll need to move to a ADA-friendly apartment.) As a result of these multiple obstacles, Tom is unable to shop or prepare meals for himself.

Tom is currently awaiting a surgical procedure to resolve his urological issues. Scheduling this has been problematic because of COVID-19. As a result, Tom has been limited in his ability to work and to resume his daily activities. Meanwhile his medical bills and daily living expenses are mounting.

Please help if you can. Any amount will help. Thank you!

Tracy
