Tom Dantona Native American Scholarship
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
Lately, I have been feeling compelled to do something to honor Tom's legacy that not only would make him proud, but have a meaningful impact as well. So, I have decided to create a scholarship fund in his name: The Tom Dantona Native American Scholarship.
Tom was a humanitarian whose compassion was seemingly limitless when it came to family, friends, and those in need. He was particularly invested in giving back to the Native American community, most recently through his own business venture that aimed to create job opportunities and training in IT for Indigenous people.
Mni Sota Makoce, or Minnesota as we know it, has been home to the Dakota people for thousands of years. Through broken treaties, genocide, and exile, the U.S. Government tried to extinguish this First Nation, and yet, they returned to their homeland and continue to persevere through a multitude of challenges.
It is my hope that this scholarship fund will support Native students in District 112, (where I have taught for 18 years), on their path of continued education, and also keep alive Tom’s dream of investing in the futures of people in the Native American community. I know in my heart that Tom would whole-heartedly support this effort, and I humbly ask for your help in establishing this fund to support a worthy cause, and help Tom’s dream come to fruition.
Scholarship awards will be given out to two or three (depending on the amount of funds secured) graduating seniors of Native descent from District 112, who are enrolled at a post-secondary college/university or trade school. I will personally hand out the checks at our two high schools' award ceremonies in June.
Any money over the asked amount will be put in a scholarship fund bank account to be used in subsequent years.
Thank you for your love, and thank you for your support.
Janet
