Tom Cooke Strong
A few months ago we got the worst news you’d ever want to hear. Our dad was diagnosed with T cell PLL leukemia/lymphoma. It is an extremely rare type of leukemia. Only about 30 Americans have been diagnosed with this. After my mother pushed and pushed to get him into Mass General (thank god), he immediately began a 12 week treatment plan with immune therapy infusions three times a week. At first each treatment made him really sick but after a few weeks his body got used to it and the treatments got a little easier. At this time he is feeling positive. His white blood count is where it belongs and he has a match for a bone marrow transplant. His brother Gary will be donating his bone marrow! Tom has his last immune therapy treatment this week and will be undergoing the bone marrow transplant August 4th. Prayers that his body accepts the new cells. It’s looking good but he is not quite out of the woods.
Needless to say it’s been a tough road for him and all of us. He has a great support system but the more the better. The bills are starting to pile up on them between his medicine, hospital stays, gas, parking, co-pays and any further medical bills. The last thing my brother Craig and I want them to worry about right now is extra medical bills. He needs to focus on his health and staying strong.
Any donation will help. Nothing is too small. We appreciate all of you and your continued support for my dad. Thank you.
