Tom Calder's Road to Recovery

Hi my name is Lara and here is my story about Tom...

The day started like all others. No premonition of the events about to unfold. Tom being who he is, was running a bit behind. Off on an adventure to a job to pick up an addition for a cabin. Road Trip ..... tunes going, ice cap in hand - the day was golden.

After arriving at the destination and loading up the sunroom, Tom climbs up on the roof to put braces for the trip back.

Next instant he is lying on the ground in excruciating pain staring up at the overhanging edge that broke away. Tom was kept immobile while they waited for the ambulance to get there.

Because of Tom's injuries, they transported him to a spot where STARS was able to land in order to get him to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. He was kept in traction until they could get him assessed.

Tom's back was broken between his shoulder blades and would require surgery to put some hardware in to repair the break. He also has some cracked ribs and a partial collapsed lung.

Tom has a long, slow road ahead of him.

I have not met too many men as gracious of a man as Tom. He rarely says no to anyone - even strangers.

Tom is always the first person to offer his help. If there is a project that needs doing, he is there. He is a kind-hearted person, always helping others.

Tom has been there for so many people over the years - whether he is helping with events, children, a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, offering his home, fixing, building, hauling, or offering a hand up. Now he needs our help.

I now ask for your help for Tom as you know he is self-employed. He is faced with a long road to recovery. I am using the power of social media and am asking for any help to cover his costs in the upcoming months. I am forever grateful to all who have taken the time to read Tom's story.
