We've been mates with Tom's Dad, Ian, for a long time !
Tom is only 13 years old.
Tom has been diagnosed with, and is currently undergoing treatment for Lymphoma.
This is something that would take it's toll, physically and mentally, on anyone, let alone a 13 year old boy.
Tom isn't complaining. Neither are his family. They're getting on with it and doing everything they can to positively influence this event in their lives.
We ( Neil Latham and Stephen Sullivan - aka Len and Sully ), wanted to do something though.
It's Tom's birthday at the end of August. He'll be 14.
We've had an idea to raise some money.
We're going to do 14 Marathons ( a total of 364 miles ) in time for his 14th Birthday.
Effectively, that's 7 Marathons in 7 weeks, each, which we will cover only by either running, or on a bike.
364 miles is the exact distance from Liverpool to Dunkirk in France.
Very relevant given the 'battle' young Tom is going through at the moment.
We've discussed it with Tom's family and agreed to split the amount donated.
We will split 50% of the total funds raised between the Teenage Cancer Trust and Ward 3B at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital.
The other 50% will go directly to Tom to do whatever he wants with it !
We haven't set a financial target, ( we had to put something on so £1 was a starting point ) but every single donation really will help.
The more the merrier.
