The 127 children at the primary school on the rural island of Koh Tnoat, Cambodia, are in need of two additional toilets for improved sanitation. In collaboration with the Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT), our group is endeavouring to raise the funds needed to make this project happen. Your donation help will triple the number of toilets at the school from one to three. Alongside the clear benefits of improved sanitation for reduction of disease, this project is vital for enabling the students’ continued participation in empowering education, in particular for the 60% of students who are female.
Project Origin
In February of 2023, our group had the opportunity to undertake a study tour program on the island of Koh Tnoat. We spoke with teachers at the local primary school, who identified the pressing need for additional toilets and improved sanitation at the school. Since then, we have worked diligently with CRDT to develop an appropriate pathway for achieving this vision.
Comparative costing of similar, completed projects by CRDT led to an estimated $3000 AUD needed for the success of this initiative (financial report link below). That’s where you come in – you can be a part of providing vital infrastructure to over 100 students by contributing to this fundraiser.
Who are CRDT?
The Cambodian Rural Development Team (CRDT) is a certified local Cambodian NGO with a track record of success when it comes to localised development, especially with regards to improved sanitation. To date, they have installed over 10,000 latrines in rural Cambodian villages to combat open defecation.
Who are we?
We are a group of 5 Australian-based engineers and engineering students who strive to use our skills and our platform to bring greater attention to the empowerment of disadvantaged communities. We set up small, targeted projects that have a big impact without requiring significant funding.
