My name is Tatiana, I’m 38. I have a wonderful retired military husband, a beautiful 12year old daughter, and a perfect stepson who graduated this year. We live in North Carolina.
At the age of 19 I started developing Autoimmune diseases, which started hitting more and more organs: Ulcerative colitis, Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, Hepatic Encephalopathy, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Liver Cirrhosis, Portal hypertension etc. Eventually I ended up on Liver Transplantation waitlist. The family and I patiently and with big hopes have been waiting for the offer. Being a positive and optimistic person I never gave in to diseases and lived a normal life and hardly anybody knew that I am very sick. My husband and I both work full time to be able to provide for the family.
The shocking disaster came out of the blue- 1July 2019 my doctor told me I have a Cholangiocarcinoma, which is Bile duct cancer. We were not prepared for this. So far all I know is that it’s a rare, aggressive and hard to cure form of cancer. Survival rates are poor. They don’t treat it here in North Carolina and we were referred to go to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota .
This was not foreseen or budgeted. We will have to travel to and stay in Minnesota for 3-6 weeks without our monthly checks. We won’t be able to pay our household bills or for our stay there while I am at the hospital, not even mentioning medical co-pays. We are desperate right now and I don’t even know anymore if I should be crying because I don’t want to go until my baby girl grows up, or try to figure out how to cover expenses, or prepare the house for the after-treatment accommodation.
