The fight is over, let the healing begin.
Dear Family and Friends,
For those of you who know Joyce, little needs to be said. To some, she is a friend, to others a sister, sister-in-law, and daughter. To her loving husband, Thom, she is wife, soul-mate, and pillar of their family. To her sweet, wonderful boys, she is Mom. To me, she is family and my best friend. To more people than we can possibly count, Joyce is a giver. She gives of her time, talents, and energy to anyone who needs her help.
March 2015 marks a month in which Joyce Hamershlag O’Connor’s life was turned upside down. She experienced leg pain that led to the diagnosis of High Grade Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She is pain—extreme physical pain, emotional pain, and financial pain. She will undergo radiation, surgery, and possible chemotherapy in the coming months. Joyce is still undergoing tests at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore to determine if the cancer has spread. She needs our support.
With this campaign, I hope to take some financial burdens off their shoulders and to assist Joyce and her family with the financial difficulties that lie ahead of them in the upcoming months. While Joyce does have insurance, her bills are already beginning to add up. She’s had several MRI’s, a biopsy, numerous tests and office visits, and she needs a PET scan and possibly another biopsy before they can even begin treatment. With an estimated $80,000-100,000 in medical expenses and loss of income, we ask for the support of the Joyce’s family, friends, and community. Any donation---big or small---will make a difference. Funds will also be applied to the medical expenses her husband Thom accumulated from his open heart surgery in November of 2013. Please help Joyce and her family if you can. And if you're not in the financial position to donate, a prayer and positive energy would always be appreciated and welcome.
Even with this terrifying diagnosis and a future with many uncertainties and battles ahead, Joyce’s humor and compassion continue to inspire and brighten the lives of those around her. She remains positive and faithful in what the future holds. She is truly an inspiration to her family and friends.
