Update: Health Inspection + What’s Next - 05/15/2025

We wanted to share some important and reassuring news. Our health inspector recently visited and conducted a full inspection of our facility. We are relieved and grateful to report that all of the product stored in our coolers—both in the front and back of house—remained safe throughout the fire. Thanks to uninterrupted electricity, our coolers never dropped below the proper temperatures, meaning that none of our prepared food, meats, or cheeses were compromised.

This means we can use our existing inventory to fulfill all pending shipping orders and continue supporting our wholesale accounts. Once we’ve allocated product for those orders, we plan to reopen our online Square store for our local customers. Our priority is to responsibly use every bit of food that is safe and ready to go—minimizing waste and maximizing the support we can provide to you, our community.

We are incredibly touched by your outpouring of love, support, and the overwhelmingly generous donations we’ve received. While we do have insurance, as many of you know, it won’t cover the full extent of the damage or the rebuild we now face. The fire and flooding caused significant damage to the interior of our store—our walls will need to be rebuilt, and much of our space restored from the ground up.

Your donations are helping to bridge the critical gap between what insurance will cover and the actual cost of rebuilding. More than anything, we want to hold onto our amazing staff—our family—and ensure they have a place to return to. That’s what this campaign is really about: preserving our team, our mission, and our home.

Please continue to share this fundraiser, keep the momentum going, and tell your friends. We need every bit of support to get through this. We will come back. We are rebuilding with you and for you—because of the love you’ve shown us.

We’ve got this—and it’s all for you.

With love and gratitude,
The Herbivorous Butcher Team

Help The Herbivorous Butcher Recover After Fire Damage

On May 13th, a fire broke out above our kitchen at The Herbivorous Butcher, causing significant damage to our beloved space. The fire originated in the ceiling between units and quickly escalated, requiring the fire department to flood the kitchen in order to contain it. While we’re incredibly grateful that no one was hurt, the aftermath has left our facility in a devastating state.

Right now, we’re still learning the full extent of the damage. The insurance company is on-site today, and we’re doing everything we can to assess what can be salvaged, what needs rebuilding, and how long recovery might take. Unfortunately, the kitchen is currently unusable, and all operations—including our storefront and delivery platforms—are temporarily shut down.

We’re launching this GoFundMe with an initial goal of $100,000 to help us begin the long process of cleanup, repair, and restoring operations. This is just a starting point as we wait for more information and evaluate our total losses. We’ll continue to post updates here as we learn more and begin rebuilding.

This is heartbreaking, but we’re committed to coming back—stronger and more determined than ever. We’ve poured everything into creating a space that brings people together through compassionate food, and we’re so grateful for your support during this incredibly difficult time.

With gratitude,
The Vegan Butchers
