Together We Can Help RJ Beat Rare Sarcoma Cancer

Together We Can Help RJ Conquer spindle cell synovial sarcoma Cancer. This request is written from the hearts of so many who love, support and are praying for RJ Bevins. RJ is a passionate, intelligent 27-year-old young man.

In February 2020, RJ Bevins was diagnosed with Stage 3 Spindle Cell Synovial Sarcoma Cancer, an extremely rare form of cancer which affects fewer than 1% of 1% of all people with cancer. At only 27, RJ Bevins is facing the fight of his life.

When RJ first shared the news of his condition, friends and family immediately rallied around him.  Everyone who has met RJ knows he has a passion for life and a gift for bringing people together. TeamPositiveVibesForRJ started from a small group of friends and family and has grown to a community of people. Please join us and be inspired by RJ's optimism and determination as we support him in his fight to tackle cancer.

Our hero grew up in the small town of Ticonderoga, NY -- fishing from the lakes and brooks, hiking up the Adirondack peaks, and snowmobiling through the mountains of upstate NY. One of his favorite past times as a child was ice skating and playing hockey with dad. RJ has always been a gifted problem solver. But first and foremost, he’s a natural leader with an unmatched ability to inspire his peers and bring people together.  From the time he was a kindergartener, RJ was comfortable among his classmates, teachers, and even older students who saw him as a role model, leader, and loyal friend.

Throughout his life, RJ has been able to connect with mentors and teammates with an unrelenting determination and team-first mentality. From the age of 5, RJ has been an adventurous thrill seeker, always pushing the envelope, with a thirst to live life to the fullest. At the age of 11, he and his dad took an interest in a place called Pennsic, a two-week medieval summer camping and martial arts experience in Western Pennsylvania. There, he also learned to spin poi. He started with tennis balls, and quickly advanced to fire balls on a chain. SCA (society for creative anachronism) became a much-anticipated annual bonding experience for RJ, his brother, and father. At about 12 years old, RJ started parkour and daring tricks on his bike. As a freshman in high school, RJ sustained a knee injury while playing football. He required surgery for his torn ACL. He went back to parkour too soon and tore his ACL again, that ended his competitive football dreams.

RJ’s dad is a veteran and permanently disabled police officer. His dad was diagnosed with Barret’s Esophagus and has suffered through many health issues. Without a second thought, RJ selflessly quit the job he loved that offered stability and a retirement and relocated to Florida to help his father. RJ has struggled to make ends meet in FL, while helping his dad and starting his own family. RJ sustained an injury to his shoulder that never seemed to heal. Without insurance, he ignored it, thinking it would get better. As the spot grew, he thought it might just be scar tissue. This went on for 8 months as this mass grew to the size of a lemon and became very painful. RJ was so concerned with causing financial strain to his family, that he waited and unknowingly risked his life. His dad had just been hospitalized and underwent surgery, when RJ underwent his 2nd biopsy which was very invasive. The first biopsy was inconclusive, and they had to cut him open and dig in to multiple spots for the 2nd round. Dad was still recuperating when RJ got the news that he not only had a rare form of cancer, but it was advanced. Everyone held their breath as they waited to see if it had spread to his lungs. The blessing was that it had not spread. RJ was told that he would need to aggressively treat this cancer to save his life. He would require multiple rounds of the strongest Chemo available (Red Devil), Radiation Treatments and Surgery. He will then need to have body scans to see if more treatment is needed. They have given him a 50% chance of being cured. RJ is always thinking of others, and when Moffit Cancer Center requested he donate blood and be the first in a study to help future patients, he quickly agreed. He is proud to be able to help others even when the circumstances dictate, he think of himself first.

Until approximately three weeks ago, RJ was a healthy, active, and strong. RJ must stay in the hospital for 5 days each time he has a round of chemo. In total, everything is going to take about 6 months, longer if the treatment does not go as planned. As the sole provider for his family, RJ’s life has been turned upside down in a matter of just a few weeks. RJ will not be able to continue working and is facing financial difficulties with mounting bills. Unfortunately, RJ does not have finances necessary to pay for this level of medical care and treatment.

Throughout his life, RJ has inspired and touched the lives of all the people around him.  As his close friends and family, we want to share his story with people who don't know him, but should -- because RJ has taught us the power of determination and hard work and the value of being a team player. RJ is truly a one-of-a-kind human with the spirit of a fighter and a heart of gold.  The world is a better place because RJ is a part of it.  We hope that you will join RJ Bevins, his wife Abby, one-year-old daughter Rozi, and #TeamPositiveVibesForRJ in our fight to tackle this cancer so RJ can continue to inspire and touch lives for many years to come.  It’s time for all of us to send RJ Positive Vibes!

Please join our team and support RJ through a contribution, big or small, and messages of encouragement, to help RJ as he begins his journey to tackle cancer! Everyone realizes that this cannot be done alone, so please, please spread the word and contribute as much as you can. Help us help RJ so that he and his family do not have to worry about anything other than RJ getting well. In addition, prayers are much appreciated, and many are praying ceaselessly for a miracle. Please join them. Any assistance will be so appreciated.

Thank you for your support, prayers, and generosity.
