Together We Can Help Cherri Fight Cancer

January 21, 2020 my sister Cherri Morell Jones went for a routine mammogram.  Within 4 hours she received a call about a "change" over her last one.  She was then scheduled to come in for another mammogram with an ultrasound scheduled for February 4, 2020.  It was at that appointment that she was told the words no one wants to hear - we believe you have cancer.  She was scheduled for a stereo-tactic biopsy the very next day where it was confirmed that she did in fact have two types of cancer - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Ductal Carcinoma In Situ.  This was not supposed to happen.  She's only 46 years old.  She is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  It shouldn't be happening at all.  NOT to my baby sister.  Not to someone who has been only good in this world.  Decisions were made and on March 30, 2020 Cherri went in to the hospital to have a double mastectomy all by herself due to COVID - 19.  No one could be with her.  Shannon (her husband) took her over to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, dropped her off at the door and sat in his truck the approximately 9 & 1/2 hours waiting for the call to come to the hospital door to pick her up and bring her home.  Thankfully it she was able to come home the same day.  Cherri's cancer was sent to Rochester NY for a pathology report to determine if she would benefit from chemotherapy.  Her risk factor came back high - at a 41.  This meant that if she did not have chemo treatments, she had a 29% chance of the cancer returning within 9 years.  She met with her Oncologist who suggested 8 rounds of chemotherapy.  Treatments to be every other week.  The first 4 treatments to be very aggressive and with the remaining 4 to be a bit easier on her body.  On April 30, 2020 Cherri started what would be a fight for her life with her first treatment. To date, she has had 6 of the 8 recommended treatments.  Things have not been easy for her.  She is feeling sad and overwhelmed.  Her doctor has kept her out of work due to Covid-19 and her immune system being compromised.  
 Her family and friends have been hoping to have a fundraiser to help pay for expenses not covered by insurance and other expenses from being out of work but with Covid - 19 that has not been possible.
