Education and Leadership for Displaced Youth and Women in Cabo Delgado, Northern Mozambique.
Leadership for Scholarship Information Association (LIBESHIP).
Cabo Delgado, in northern Mozambique, is facing a severe humanitarian crisis due to armed conflict, which has displaced thousands of families and particularly affected youth and women. Many have been forced to abandon their homes, schools, and livelihoods. In this context, access to education, information, and opportunities becomes a crucial pillar for rebuilding hope and the future.

LIBESHIP – Leadership for Scholarship Information Association emerges as a response to this challenge, promoting education, inclusion, and youth leadership. Through this project, we aim to create concrete opportunities for displaced youth and women, ensuring access to training, scholarships, and capacity-building for the reconstruction of their communities.
Beneficiaries
Direct Beneficiaries:
• 500 internally displaced youth (ages 10–30), with special focus on women, girls, and persons with disabilities.
• Students affected by the war who have lost access to schools or universities.
Indirect Beneficiaries:
• Families and communities benefiting from the social and economic impact of youth education and capacity-building.
General Objective
To promote education, leadership, and social inclusion for displaced youth and women in Cabo Delgado, creating pathways to scholarships, skills development, and the reconstruction of their lives.
Specific Objectives
1. Map and identify displaced youth in vulnerable situations who are interested in continuing their studies.
2. Create a mentorship and training program in leadership, entrepreneurship, and citizenship.
3. Support youth applications for national and international scholarships.
4. Implement workshops on education for peace, gender equality, and community resilience.
5. Establish partnerships with universities, international organizations, and donors for sustainable funding.
Rationale
The war in Cabo Delgado has disproportionately affected women, exposing them to violence, social exclusion, and school dropouts. Investing in their education and leadership is an investment in the social and economic reconstruction of the province.
Without concrete opportunities, many young people remain vulnerable to recruitment by armed groups, unemployment, and extreme poverty. This project creates real alternatives for these youth to become resilient leaders and agents of change.
Main Activities
1. Establish Support and Information Centers in resettlement areas, providing internet, computers, and tutoring.
2. Conduct workshops and training on scholarships, application preparation, leadership, and digital skills.
3. Implement a mentorship program for young women, focusing on empowerment and gender equality.
4. Run community awareness campaigns on the importance of education for peace and social reconstruction.
5. Provide direct financial support (school fees, transportation, study materials) for youth at risk of dropping out.
Expected Results
• Displaced youth trained and integrated into scholarship programs.
• Women empowered with greater access to education and leadership opportunities.
• Creation of a network of resilient young leaders in Cabo Delgado.
• Reduced risk of social exclusion, unemployment, and forced recruitment.
