Our lives changed forever five years ago when my wife, Marcy Maloy, was paralyzed with a spinal cord injury. At the time, neurosurgeons told us specifically that we should expect she would never walk again.
For the first two years of her recovery, Marcy worked incredibly hard. With the support of private nurses and specialized therapists—services not covered by our private insurance—she defied the odds. Today, thanks to her relentless spirit and the early support of family, friends, and our wider community, Marcy can walk with a walker.
However, we are now at a critical juncture in her journey.
I recently met with a financial advisor who specializes in spinal cord injuries to map out the years ahead. Based on his professional assessment, the cost to sustain Marcy's health and continue building on her progress is projected at $50,000 annually. Over the last five years, meeting these costs has rapidly depleted our retirement savings. As Marcy’s primary caregiver, I cannot sustain the same pace of care on my own that I have for the last five years.
The Professional Roadmap
Our consultant’s assessment covers these essential needs:
Specialized Neuro‑Physical Therapy: Vital for maintaining and advancing the incredible gains Marcy has made.
Medical Stability & Safety: Managing a compromised immune system where even minor illnesses can escalate into emergencies.
Professional Home Health Support: Ensuring the consistent, high‑level care that no single family member can maintain indefinitely.
Equipment & Supplies: Supporting ongoing maintenance for adaptive equipment and medical necessities not covered by insurance.
Our Goal: $250,000 to Secure the Next 5 Years
Our objective is to raise the full five years of funding upfront. By reaching this goal, we can establish a dedicated fund for Marcy’s care and immediately stop the drain on our remaining savings. This approach gives our family financial stability while ensuring Marcy continues to receive the professional care that allows her to keep moving forward.
To ensure transparency and long‑term integrity, all donations will be held in a dedicated account strictly reserved for Marcy’s professional care and medical expenses. This fund will give her the stability she needs to preserve—and continue—the incredible progress she’s worked so tirelessly to achieve.
It is deeply humbling to come back to you to ask for your help once again. We are so grateful for every friend, family member, and supporter who has carried us this far. Thank you for staying in our corner and believing in Marcy’s strength.
Let’s help her keep walking.
