Together for Kim: Fighting Breast Cancer

It is with a heavy heart that I am creating this account for my amazing mom, Kim Gray. She is a loyal friend, the best grandma to her granddaughter, a great mom, and a beautiful daughter of the one true King.

Towards the end of July, my mom had an MRI done for something, when the imaging caught some abnormalities in her right breast. Within days, she had a mammogram and an ultrasound, which were deemed suspicious as well. Shortly after, she had a biopsy and MRI done of her breast, and it was confirmed that she has breast cancer. All of this has happened very quickly. At this point, we don't even know what stage of breast cancer she has. What we do know is that it is a combination of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. She is ER+ and PR+, along with HER2 positive. Being that the cancer is HER2 positive, this means that it is more aggressive. Thank the Lord, when she had her PET scan, it showed that the cancer has not metastasized anywhere else in her body. She has 2 lymph nodes that are affected, but other than that, it is localized to the right breast. I will be trying to keep you all posted through a CaringBridge site where I will post updates and can go into more detail of what different terms mean, if people have questions. Right now, the treatment plan (which could change) is that she has 6 rounds of chemo, one round every 3 weeks. She will then either have a lumpectomy or mastectomy. After that, she will need at least one year of infusions of targeted therapy, specifically for the HER2 positivity.

With all of this being said, I am asking for your help throughout this difficult battle my mom is going to face. Unfortunately her place of employment does not offer health insurance, short-term or long-term disability. The insurance that she pays for out of pocket, has an incredibly high deductible. She has a very limited amount of vacation time left at work, which is being used up rapidly with all of the appointments she has had to take time off for already. Once that time is gone, it is gone. There are so many unknowns right now. We don't know how she will handle the treatments, how much work she will have to miss, etc. Financially, this is going to be a very difficult hardship for her. I am asking for any help that you can offer, so that she doesn't have to stress over the financial piece of things and can focus on healing and getting better.

It is my prayer that we could be the hand and feet of Jesus for my mom as she goes through this incredibly difficult journey. Any monetary donation, regardless of the amount, would be beyond appreciated. If you would like to donate gas cards as we have to travel back and forth to appointments, Walmart gift cards for groceries, whatever you can do to help will be such a blessing to her and to our family. If that is something you would like to do, private message me, Sara, and we can find a time to meet, or I can give you an address to send them to. If you would like to make a meal, she is going to try her best to stick to a plant-based, no-sugar diet. Most importantly, prayers. We believe in the power of prayer and that God can do anything. I believe if we can come together and rally around my mom, let her know she is loved and so very important, she is going to make it through this and come out on the other side even stronger than she already is. Thank you for your consideration to donate. God bless!
