Hi, my name is Kayli Michels, and Jennifer Powell-Christoff and I are setting up this campaign on behalf of our dear friend and teammate, Kelly, and her husband, John.
I’ve known Kelly for over a decade. I used to teach her two children, Chris (rising sophomore at Virginia Tech) and Carly (rising High school Junior) dance since they were four and six years old. They are one of the sweetest families you’ll ever meet, and they’re always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Kelly and I work closely together in real estate, and she and John are not only incredible people but genuinely kind, loyal, and show up for others in every way. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
John was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with ampullary duct cancer, rare and aggressive! A diagnosis that has turned their world upside down. As they begin the overwhelming journey of treatment, hospital visits, and navigating the unknown, we want to help lift the financial burden that often comes with medical crises, so they can focus fully on healing and spending time together.
Early last week, Kelly’s husband, John, started experiencing strange symptoms, but he felt fine and didn’t experience any pain. However, the symptoms persisted, so Kelly strongly urged him to go to urgent care. When they took his blood, they discovered that his liver levels were extremely high. They immediately sent him to the emergency room, where he spent five nights. After undergoing various tests, they received an unexpected and devastating diagnosis,
Fortunately, John has been referred and accepted at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston,TX. This is a leading institution for this type of cancer treatment and research, renowned for its comprehensive approach and innovative clinical trials. MD Anderson focuses on both localized and metastatic cancers, utilizing a multidisciplinary team to tailor treatment plans based on whether the tumor is resectable (removable) or not.
John’s surgery is scheduled for Monday, the 7th, and he’ll need to stay for at least three weeks. Followed by Chemo which we are hoping they let him do here. The flights back and forth and the cost of hotels are adding up quickly. To help with these expenses, we’re requesting funds. These funds will be used to cover the cost of travel and hotels, as well as to bring his family down there for his support. He is currently scheduled to go down alone and Kelly only coming for a few days to save on expense we would love for the family to be there the entire time if possible. We truly appreciate any donations!
Whether you’re able to donate, share, or simply keep them in your thoughts and prayers, your support means the world. Every little bit makes a big difference, and we are so grateful for your kindness during this incredibly difficult time. We can't thank our KW family enough for all you have done and are doing to help out those in need.
With love and thanks,
Kayli and Jennifer
