On June 14th, the Dalton and Dakota Allen’s family’s world changed when they discovered a large bump on the left side of Dustin’s head. After a CT scan, doctors confirmed the presence of a large brain cyst.
Since then, Dustin’s parents have been navigating a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, time off work, and travel. They’ve been referred to a neurosurgeon in Iowa City, who has outlined potential surgical options. But before any surgery can happen, Dustin must first see a neurologist and an ophthalmologist — meaning several trips back and forth between Iowa City and Des Moines over the coming weeks.
Following surgery, Dustin will need about 6 weeks of recovery, including at least 2–3 weeks out of school, to rest and heal. This extended recovery adds even more pressure as his family works to juggle care, work, and everyday responsibilities.
The next several weeks will bring a heavy load of travel, medical appointments, and emotional strain. All funds raised will help cover travel expenses, lost wages, and medical costs so the Allens can focus fully on Dustin’s health and recovery.
Both of Dustin’s parents work in the community and are always the first to lend a hand when someone else is in need. Now it’s our turn to give back. Let’s rally around them and help lift the burden during this difficult time.
