Together for Dad's Cancer Journey

A year ago, my family's lives changed in a way we never saw coming, all with one six-letter word: cancer. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell sarcoma, which is a cancer found in the mouth; for him, it was in his tongue. We prayed for a miracle that it hadn't spread and could be removed with surgery, and his life would be back to normal. God had other plans that we simply didn't understand. It had spread to his lymph nodes, and he would undergo surgery on December 9th, 2024, to remove half his tongue, his lymph nodes, and repair it all with a graft from his leg. He came out of it all and was out of the hospital in a little over a week! We patiently waited for results, and they were not what we had hoped. It ended up being a larger tumor than expected, and it was decided that he needed chemotherapy and radiation, both the most intense medicine they have, with hopes to kick cancer's butt. Dad begins his radiation on January 27th, which will be daily, and chemotherapy once a week through a port that they placed last week. So many unknowns still and such a large journey to face. On top of this, Dad was in a car accident, the van has begun acting up, and his strength to continue working is small. God has his hand in so many places during this difficult time and has provided the best medical team and plan to beat this. From the first day of diagnosis, we have said, "In this family, no one fights alone." Cancer has impacted both Dad and the family in so many ways, financially being one.
