Hi, I'm Ruth. As part of my medical training, I am spending my elective in the Paediatrics Department at Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. During my time here, I’ve been deeply moved by the children and families I’ve met. Despite facing serious illness, many of these young patients show incredible strength and resilience.

What has struck me most, however, is how often the hospital lacks the most basic supplies we would take for granted—things like diapers, baby formula, and clean clothing. For families already under enormous stress, the absence of these essentials makes an incredibly difficult time even harder. One pack of diapers is around 400 birr (£2) which is very expensive for parents who earn little to nothing.

I want to do something small but meaningful to help. Through this fundraiser, I hope to raise money to provide these everyday necessities directly to the children and families who need them most. Even a little support can make a big difference in bringing comfort, dignity, and relief to these vulnerable patients.
