When I think about dementia, I think about my family. There are my grandparents, who both had rare forms of the illness, and there is my mother, a psychiatrist specialising in dementia research.

That means I've seen this illness from two sides: as a family member of those living with dementia, and as the daughter of someone whose life's work is dedicated to helping people with dementia and their carers.

Through my grandparents I’ve seen firsthand how it affects not only the person diagnosed, but everyone who loves them. Through my mum’s work, I know how urgent the need is to support carers and focus on prevention.

Some fundraising to help those affected is long overdue, and today I'm asking friends and family to donate and help accelerate progress toward a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

By participating in this fundraiser, you are directly helping families receive the support they need today while also funding research.

Thank you for your support and commitment to ending Alzheimer’s.

If you are looking to understand what you can do to prevent dementia apart from donating to and sharing my fundraiser, please read the Lancet commission report on dementia prevention, intervention, and care which is led by my Mum, Professor Gill Livingston.
