El pasado martes 20 de julio Cheko, tres semanas después de casarse con Majo (entusiasta y llena de energía como él),  salió a rodar en bici  y lamentablemente tuvo un accidente que diagnosticó un politraumatismo. A pesar del dolor intenso y el sufrimiento, nunca perdió la calma, el temple de acero y la claridad mental que le caracterizan. 

A partir de su hospitalización, Cheko ha tenido varias intervenciones quirúrgicas de gran complejidad buscando los mejores resultados, además de transfusiones sanguíneas, de plaquetas, y otros procesos médicos.

Pese a que el seguro médico cubrirá la mayor cantidad de los gastos, Cheko y su familia deberán cubrir el 35% de la cuenta total, misma que hoy ya supera los $700,000.00 pesos mexicanos (USD$35,000). Por eso necesitamos de tu apoyo, porque ninguna ayuda es pequeña y cada uno de nosotros juega un rol importante para Cheko. Hagámoslo posible #TodosXCheko

¿Quién es Cheko?

Es difícil contestar la pregunta y no por falta de adjetivos, historias, aventuras y amigos, sino por la inmensa cantidad de amigos que tiene, es posible que cada uno de ellos tenga una anécdota que ejemplifica lo que para mí es su virtud más grande: ser una persona que da y da. Da energía al otro, da cariño, momentos y cualquier cosa que se necesite para lograr los más difíciles objetivos.

Desde su llegada a la CDMX hace más de 20 años ha buscado los caminos con más retos y aventuras, un hombre incapaz de quedarse quieto tanto física como mentalmente, siempre buscando el nuevo reto. Siendo el primero su salida de Minatitlán, su ciudad natal (algo muy difícil porque es: La Capital del Mundo, El París de América, La Venecia Veracruzana, Edén de Guapos, según sus palabras), desde que llegó al DF, se embarcó en distintos proyectos: Volleyball, Ping Pong, Patinaje, etc. En todos sobresaliendo, sin embargo, un deporte llegó para robarle su corazón: Ultimate Frisbee.

Realmente no pudo haber deporte que tuviera más en común con su forma de pensar: HONESTIDAD y creación de comunidad. Desde que se apareció en el Ultimate ha creado comunidad, no solo en el equipo en el que es una pieza clave y fundamental, el de sus amores, Fénix, sino siendo el apoyo para crear distintos proyectos para competir y desarrollar mejor, además de llevar el Ultimate mexicano a presentarse a nivel internacional.

Todos y cada uno de los proyectos en los que ha estado es una pieza que guía y establece las metas, siempre pensando en el otro, pensando en “¿cómo podemos hacer que las cosas se den?, ¿quién necesita ayuda?, ¿cómo ayudamos?”, cada vez que pienso en los proyectos me queda más claro que sin él es posible que no se hubieran dado.

Para mí es un referente para hacer las cosas, he tratado de imitar muchas de sus cualidades siempre quedándome corto.

Durante la pandemia siguió esa búsqueda de actividades para seguir viviendo su vida al máximo, viajando, mar, montaña y diferentes opciones para no detener su espíritu. En una de ellas, dando un paseo en bicicleta se presentó un terrible accidente, que no tiene que ver con otra cosa más que con su amor de vivir sin miedos.

Hoy está librando un reto más, un reto que es único en su vida y que es, sin duda, el más difícil, para este reto necesitará la ayuda de todos, especialmente de toda esa comunidad que él ha ayudado a crear. Entre más nos unamos será más fácil ayudarle a él y a su incansable esposa, Majo, en esta batalla, que no solo será de amor, constancia y fuerza (que es parte la tiene y la siente), sino económica, ahí es donde más podemos ayudar.

Vendrán más retos, más momentos y más aventuras, hoy libremos juntos esta y seamos comunidad.

#TodosXCheko - crowdfunding campaign for the medical expenses of Sergio Ramírez Zapata

On Tuesday, July 20th, three weeks after getting married to his wife Majo (as energetic and full of life as he is), Cheko went on a bike ride and unfortunately had an accident that caused several severe injuries. In spite of experiencing intense pain, he never lost his calm, steely resolve or the mental clarity he is known for.

Since his hospitalization, Cheko has undergone several highly complex surgeries as well as blood and platelet transfusions and other medical processes, in pursuit of the best possible outcome.

Although his medical insurance will cover most of his expenses, Cheko and his family must cover 35% of the total bill, which exceeds $700,000.00 Mexican pesos (USD $35,000). This is why we are asking for your support. No amount is too small and each one of us plays an important role in Cheko´s life. Together we can make this possible. #TodosXCheko

Who is Cheko?

It is difficult to answer this question, but not for lack of adjectives, stories, adventures, or friends. Because of the immense number of friends Cheko has, it is possible that each has an anecdote that exemplifies what for me is his best quality: he is a person that gives and gives. He gives energy, love, and time to others, and whatever is needed to achieve the most difficult goals.

Since his arrival in Mexico City more than 20 years ago, he has sought out the most challenging and adventurous paths possible. He is a man incapable of staying still--physically and mentally--and is always looking for a new challenge. The first challenge was leaving his hometown, Minatitlán (something very difficult because it is, as Cheko likes to say, the Capital of the World, the Paris of America, the veracruzana Venice, and the Eden of handsome men). Since he arrived in Mexico City, he has embarked on new projects: Volleyball, Ping Pong, Skating, etc. Though he excelled in all, one sport stole his heart: Ultimate Frisbee.

There really couldn't be a sport that had more in common with his way of thinking: HONESTY and community building. Since he appeared on the scene, he has created a community, not only in the team of which he is a fundamental part and that he loves, Fénix, but also in supporting different projects to develop the sport. Among these many projects, he has helped Mexican Ultimate establish a presence in international competitions.

In each and every one of the projects he has taken part in, he has been a guiding force and has helped set goals, always thinking of others, thinking, ¨how can we make things happen? Who needs help? How can we help?” Every time I think about these projects it becomes clearer to me that without him they might not have happened.

For me, he is a model for how to do things. I have tried to emulate many of his qualities, always falling short.

During the pandemic he continued his search for activities to keep living life to the maximum: traveling to the ocean and the mountains and more, to keep his spirit going. In that search, while on a bike ride, he suffered a terrible accident that had nothing to do with anything other than his love of living without fear.

Today he is facing yet another challenge, a challenge like none other in his life and one that is, without a doubt, the most difficult. For this challenge he will need everyone’s help, and especially the help of the community he helped to create. The more people join together, the easier it will be to help him and his incredible wife Majo in this fight, which will require love, perseverance and strength (which he has and feels from everyone), but also financial assistance, which is where we can help the most.

More challenges will come, more memorable moments and more adventures. Today, let’s come together as a community and win this fight.
