TODOS POR THOMAS

Donation protected
Thomas has been fighting leukemia since he was 9 years old.

It's been almost two years facing a painful treatment including, chemo, blood transfusions, pain killers, countless days in the hospital and hundreds of injections.
Thomas started to feel pain in the lower left part of his stomach, his skin started to turn pale, I knew it wasn’t normal, so I took him to the doctor, he took some tests that came out normal. However, as the days went by, the symptoms increased; Thomas experienced loss of appetite, fatigue, an extreme pain in his legs and swollen lymph nodes. It was impossible to get an urgent appointment with a pediatrician, and I decided to take him to general medicine and write down on an piece of paper all of his symptoms. This is when Dr. Lee decided to send him to Hospital de la Misericordia.

On June 16, 2021, the oncologists found blast cells in a blood test, and Thomas was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The doctors also made a bone marrow biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Thomas was chemotherapy treatment for seven months.

On January 20, 2022, it was his last intravenous chemotherapy, we were so happy by then. We started oral chemotherapy, but eight months later there was a relapse in his bone marrow. The doctors suggested a bone marrow transplant due to an unexpected relapse. They performed rescue chemotherapy to which Thomas no longer responded. The oncologists told me that there was no longer any available treatment for Thomas and suggested to take him home and enjoy the last moments with him.

There was a feeble glint of promise at the Hospital San Juan de Dios in Barcelona, Spain, where there is new class of treatment called CAR-T therapies. I already made a virtual appointment to look at Thomas' health conditions and determine if I will be able to travel with him and start this new therapy. This is the one and only hope I have, but unfortunately the cost of this treatment is out of my reach.
I kindly ask for your collaboration; every little will help to save my son’s life and as a mother I hope you understand what that means... I will be forever grateful.
