On Friday, November 4th, dad came home from work as usual but I noticed he was acting a bit strange.  When I asked him how his day was, he said that he couldn't talk well and he thought a spider had bit his tongue.  It was then that I realized my father was having a stroke, and I called my four siblings and we rushed him to the hospital.  Within 48 hours, our poor father lost his ability to talk or use his right side.  The doctors told us that he had had two strokes, one from bleeding inside the brain and another caused by a blood clot.  Dad spent the next week in the hospital receiving CT and heart scans, and he in now in a rehab facility where they are helping him learn how to walk and talk again.


With just over 2 weeks of rehab, they are discharging him due to his insurance. He needs several more weeks of rehab if we are to have any hope of his speech and mobility returning. He is alert and interested in his care, but he is still unable to communicate and needs to relearn how to move about without the use of his right hand and right leg. They are sending him home knowing that he needs more care, but his insurance won't pay for it. My brother and sisters and I are not able to provide the financial resources to continue his therapy. My father is only 56 years old and we are counting on him regaining tools to live independently or with a small amount of assistance. My siblings and I ask that you please help our dad with whatever you can give, no matter how small. Every little bit helps as my dad works to recover what was lost.
