Todd's Helping Hand

This is my dad. Growing up, I have watched him enjoy playing basketball with my brothers and softball with his friends. That all changed in 2015 when his health took a turn for the worse. It began with a stroke in 2015, causing him to be partially blind in both eyes from center left. Over the years, he has developed high blood pressure, gout, A Fib heart rate (irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm), has had multiple blood transfusions, end stage kidney disease, and is a diabetic. My dad has suffered from open wounds on his legs derived from his diabetes for the past year. He has been seen by many doctors and specialists and has endured tremendous amount of pain. On November 23, 2021, he was transported to the hospital where they diagnosed him with sepsis. Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition that occurs when the body's response to an infection damages its own tissues. He was told that he would potentially lose one, if not both of his feet. He has had multiple surgeries to help get rid of infection. The doctors removed half of his left foot initially. After many weeks in a rehab facility, he was not getting enough circulation to his lower limbs. A balloon was placed to help stimulate circulation, but was not successful. My dad was tired of being in pain and decided to go along with the doctor's decision to cut off to the middle of his shin. My dad has been in the hospital for almost 3 months. My mom has been by his side this entire time. She even brought in a small Christmas Tree and familiar household items to make the hospital their temporary home for Christmas. She has become his 24/7 caregiver. They have been together for 35 years and have endured so much these past 7 years. We are so thankful for all the prayers, calls, and texts received. We are truly blessed that he is still here with us today. Although my parents would never ask, I am asking for support to help my parents through this trying time. All funds will help cover out of pocket costs for medications, wheelchair, hospital bed, prosthetics, and any home repairs needed to make their home handicap accessible. I appreciate all of you!
