I’m running the Chester Marathon in October 2026 for my sister’s partner, Chloe.
Chloe is fighting cancer. Her treatment includes an above the knee amputation. The NHS/The Christie has been incredible and we cannot thank them enough, but prosthetics on the NHS can be limiting.
Our family wants to give Chloe the opportunity to explore as many options as possible as she adjusts to life with a prosthetic leg.
The strength Chloe has shown over the past few months has been inspirational. Her courage and humour in the face of an incredibly unfair diagnosis has blown us all away.
I’m privileged to be preparing to drag myself around the 26.2 mile course in Chloe’s name.
Chloe has written the below, which will give you a bit of an insight into her last few months…
My name is Chloe and earlier this year, at the age of 32, I was diagnosed with an aggressive soft tissue and bone cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Sarcoma is rare, accounting for about 1% of all cancer diagnoses, and most people don’t know it exists!
I didn’t experience the typical cancer symptoms we all know to be aware of either - I hadn’t lost any weight and wasn’t experiencing fatigue. My main symptom was persistent swelling in my right leg, which I noticed last year. As the months went on the swelling worsened and I also started experiencing pain when walking. I couldn’t feel a lump or anything incredibly concerning, but I decided to get my leg checked out.
After a visit to the doctor, an urgent referral to the hospital and many scans and tests, unfortunately my worst fears were confirmed - I had a cancerous tumour in my leg. The cancer had also spread to my lung and a lymph node in my groin. Treatment would have to start immediately and would last for months.
I’m currently over halfway through 14 cycles of chemotherapy and will also need radiotherapy and an above-knee amputation of my right leg to remove the main tumour.
As someone who has suffered with severe health anxiety for over a decade, this year has been incredibly difficult, but I’m hopeful that my treatment will go well and I will be up and about on my prosthetic leg in no time!
I’m extremely grateful for the support of my family and friends who have kept me going during the most challenging period of my life.
