Todd the Ferret Needs Emergency Amputation!

On Friday night, Todd clawed and chewed his way through our AC unit and fell out of our four story window. He was missing for almost 22 hours while we frantically searched, with each minute becoming more unhopeful than the last, before Todd limped his way back home again, right in front of our apartment. He was alive, though obviously worse for wear.

Todd has suffered a very fractured femur on his back left leg and fractured canine. Both will have to be removed. Todd will be three legged - one step closer to being a true fur snake! (But don’t worry, he won’t miss it too much. It doesn’t affect the average ferret’s mobility - and Todd is no ordinary ferret.) He also suffered a burst lung cavity which is causing gas to be released into his abdomen.

While the injuries are serious, they are treatable, though expensive. Todd’s wonderful veterinarian let us know that his survival - and his determination - are miraculous. She also let us know that despite the pain and trauma, Todd was just as curious and playful and friendly as ever, trying to play with the staff and eagerly accepting pets.

Todd will need his back left leg amputated at the hip and one of his canines removed. He may also need other surgeries or care if need be. He will also require special care and medications for the duration of his recovery.
