Last year, Todd was diagnosed with HPV-positive squamous cell carcinoma in his left tonsil and went through 33 radiation treatments on his tonsil and throat. Typically, 90% of people with this type of cancer are cured by radiation. Unfortunately, Todd fell into the 10% that do not fully recover from radiation alone.
He now has a tumor in the lymph node that has metastasized and is invading his sternocleidomastoid (SCM) in his neck. The tumor is laying against his carotid artery and will need to be separated from it. The jugular vein is starting to be cut off. This is a deadly cancer! He is now facing major surgery to remove the tumor and save his life. Without surgery his odds of survival are only for a year and a half.
As many of you know, my dad is a Naturopathic doctor and has been doing everything he can to boost his immune system with natural remedies. He is a great candidate for this surgery! Thankfully he’ll be in the hands of one of the top head/neck surgeons in the country- Dr. John Campana, in Denver.
Dr. Campana is out of his insurance network but is the only doctor who can do this surgery – there are no surgeons in his network who can do this surgery. We are fighting to get it covered as it is a life-saving necessity.
Because of his medical bills earlier in the year, having time off to recover, and having to take more time off for surgery recovery, Todd is in major medical debt. He is also spending a lot of money out-of-pocket for alternative treatments and will need to on an ongoing basis after surgery for the rest of his life.
