Hello Friends!

Our Sweet T McB/Shotgun McBride has just started his third week in the ICU.

I asked Shayne to write a summary of his medical condition to share. Here’s what she said:

“Todd woke up a few Sundays ago and was not himself- didn’t know who he was or who I was. He had been diagnosed with a hernia 3 months prior and was in the process of getting medically cleared for surgery. I took him to the ER immediately, he was metabolically out of whack, and in addition they found 2 separate brain bleeds on CT. His brain is stable, but what his surgeon for the hernia was originally concerned about was the chance of a perforation or rupture. That happened Saturday night/Sunday morning December 3rd. A bowel obstruction caused a colon perforation-- in 2 places, the original hernia site and an additional area. He underwent a 5 hour emergency surgery, which that stubborn bastard made it through. Then a week in ICU, this time on a ventilator, with dodgy blood pressure. He has had liver and kidney complications as well as post surgery wounds, infections and a colostomy. There are miles to go, rehab, wound and ostomy care, physical therapy, speech pathology as well as monitoring his neurological situation. In short, our boy is a damn mess- per usual.”

Shayne has been by his side every day, and will soon be returning to work part-time. Todd doesn’t have health insurance, and even when he gets out of the hospital he is going to need extensive aftercare before he can return home.

We are raising funds to help pay for current and future medical bills, and to help Shayne stay above water while she navigates the mess that is our healthcare system. We know that the bills are likely to run into the hundreds of thousands, and we will probably need to do this more than once, but we wanted to get this ball rolling to start helping right away. This is stressful enough for both of them without having to worry about money.

Lots of people have asked what they can do to help, and this is honestly the best thing we can do for Todd and Shayne right now.
