My name is Jennifer Bard, and I am Todd Knipe's sister-in-law. I have created this go fund me account in hopes of generating enough money to send Todd to an intensive speech therapy program at the University of Michigan to recover from his recent stroke.
For those of you that are unaware, Todd had a massive stroke a few weeks ago. After a major 2 1/2 hour surgery to remove a clot from his brain, he was left without the ability to speak and paralyzed on the right side of his body. The doctors initially said that he will not recover, and he has already shown them that with true grit, hard work and determination that he will overcome this! After spending the last few weeks in the Mary Freebed facility located at Munson Hospital in Traverse City, he is able to walk! And he is working very diligently to regain the use of his right arm as well as his ability to speak and communicate.
In true Todd fashion, he is determined and is already showing massive improvement in his recovery. With this in mind, the rehabilitation doctors have recommended that he attend an intensive speech therapy program at The University of Michigan as soon as possible. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover the 24-day program, which comes at an out-of-pocket cost of more than $27,000.00. Todd will not be able to work for an undetermined amount of time, but with this program, it will significantly increase his chances of a near-full recovery.
Maureen and Ashton are supporting Todd in all the ways they can. And they are being loved on by family, neighbors and friends. But, this unfortunate situation will most certainly put a financial burden on them. Financial stress is the last thing we want them to be thinking about while they focus on Todd's rehabilitation! Todd is one of the most determined and hard-working people I know. There is no doubt in my mind that with a lot of patience and hard work that he will regain the majority (if not all) of his speech. If you are in a position to donate to Todd's medical fund, I ask you to do so. Let's come around their family by blessing them financially and helping them face this new challenge from a place of strength, courage, and hope with the resources they need.
If you cannot help out financially, prayers and well wishes are always welcomed! The strength and support of neighbors, friends and family have been tremendous for Todd, Maureen and Ashton! Please keep them coming!!!
