Todd Brantingham Medical Bills

Donation protected
We are raising money for Todd and Mary Jane Brantingham for unexpected medical expenses and subsequent time away from work.

On Thursday, July 18th, a group of Brantingham cousins were canoeing down the Norfolk river in Missouri. We took a pit stop at Patrick Bridge to jump into the cold spring.

All the boys got in the water to take a picture sitting on top of a man-made waterfall at Althea Springs. After the photo was taken, everyone swam to the side of the falls to get out of the water. As Todd was getting ready to exit the spring, he went to take off his flip flop and lost his grip on top of the mossy surface. The pressure of the water pushed him and he went over the falls head first into the shallow water below.

We quickly realized that something was wrong, as Todd’s body surfaced and floated at the bottom of the falls.

Several boys ran down to catch up to Todd.  As soon as they could get to Todd, they pulled  his lifeless body to the rocky bank of the water. Other boys jumped in the water helping pull Todd aside including Todd’s son, James.

There was blood coming from Todd’s head and we were not sure what all he had injured in the accident.

An ambulance was called and several cousins attended to Todd. Everyone took shifts keeping his body in the water and supporting his neck and head. Prayers and songs came from surrounding cousins.

Todd says he was conscious during the entire incident and felt a sense of peace through it all and was so grateful to be surrounded by family.

Todd was first moved by ambulance from the Patrick Bridge area over to an open field where a helicopter waited to transport him to Springfield Hospital.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Todd was sent to the operating room with a broken neck. The doctors removed a ruptured disc in his neck and fused two vertebrae together. Two vertebrae in his lower back had also been dislocated. He was then given 7 staples in the top of his head to close a 12cm gash.

The nurse at Springfield hospital told Mary Jane that Todd was in good hands. The doctor operating on Todd was a Christian who prayed over each of his patients before surgery.

After surgery, the doctor told Mary Jane that Todd was very close to paralysis.  The hospital staff said that Todd was a walking miracle.

Todd never lost his Todd charm and warmth and selfless attitude. He was making jokes at the bank of the river immediately following the accident and quickly became the favorite patient in his wing at the hospital. He put others before himself, as usual, and never lost his smile through it all.

It is only by the grace of God that Todd is able to walk and is still with us. We serve a powerful and merciful God. We give Him all the glory for this miracle.

Todd stayed in the Springfield hospital for three days and then returned to Dan and Karen’s home to rest for another three days before returning to PA.

The doctor told Todd he will not be able to work for the next 4 to 8 weeks during his recovery. He will be in a neck brace with limited mobility.

Join us in our love and support for sweet Todd and Mary Jane. Todd is expected to make a full recovery, but will still have to reconcile these unexpected bills and absence from work.

Come alongside us in continued prayer for Todd’s speedy and full recovery, as well as peace and rest for Mary Jane, James, and Lestia.
