Todd and Yolanda's emergency medical bills
Donation protected
Hello family and friends,
On October 8th, Yolanda (73 years old) suffered a stroke and had to have a stint installed in the artery of the left side of her neck. She has not fully recovered yet and is still improving.
On 12/3/2022, Todd (72 years old) was told that if he did not have immediate surgery on his T11 vertebrae that there was a chance he might be paralyzed. Once the operation began, the Doctor found a tumor growing on the vertebrae and was able to remove 80% of the tumor. The tumor was the cause of his back pain and was eating the bone, making it weak and fractured, causing severe pain. The Doctors have called both Todd and Yolanda Miracles. They do not know how Todd was still walking while he was in so much pain.
Todd and Yolanda Eklund are in need of support for these two recent medical emergencies. Please donate through GoFundMe, or directly through the missionary website found here
MRC has kindly agreed not to take a percentage of donations until December 31st, 2022.
All donations are tax-deductible and will tremendously help these two in need
Please see the letter below from Todd's brother Jeff Eklund.
Many of you are aware Todd and Yola have been challenged recently with 2 unexpected medical emergencies in Mexico City. Doctor, hospital, and related costs are expected to run well over $100,000, possibly closer to $200,000. Yola is making progress daily as we put Todd in the Lord's hands moving forward.
They do not have health insurance, and I believe their only asset is their home. Todd and Yola have both been humble servants over the past 45 years as they have proclaimed the Gospel message of salvation to literally MILLIONS of people. Many of you have been faithful and generous stewards over the years, playing a VITAL role in assisting them in reaching lost souls. This selfless partnership is recognized by the Lord for eternity!
Todd is required to leave Mexico City every 6 months, and this often allows both of them the opportunity to see Ruthie, Priscilla, and their families. I believe this is the 1 big luxury they afford themselves. I have been fortunate to join them on a couple of occasions over the past 10 years, and I can attest they are modest spenders. While visiting California with them over Thanksgiving 2 years ago, I took them to Walmart for supplies. We left about 90 minutes later and spent about $75.00 on all kinds of necessities. I watched them spend 20 minutes at the bottled water aisle to save 20 cents on the cheapest 24-pack they could find. (I say drink tap water but not the point. Maybe they are just used to not drinking Mexico tap water. ha ha)
I think we all appreciate Todd and Yola's joyful enthusiasm, love, and devotion to the Lord. Not to mention this same commitment to their family and friends.
Todd was in Bellevue, WA, visiting years ago, and we went for a walk around the neighborhood on a nice summer evening. Bellevue is 38% Asian, so he had many opportunities to speak Chinese with all kinds of people out walking as well. (They may think twice before venturing out next time) The look on their faces was priceless as he visited with them in Chinese and explained and answered questions about the gospel tracts he handed them. I asked him how many people he thinks he's had an opportunity to witness over the years, and he just shrugged his shoulders. I said to him it might be 1 million. He just kind of smiles. I took it to mean it is WAY more than that.
Yola's ministry is equally impressive as she supports the many women and their families in her vast neighborhood.
I understand we all have unique financial hardships. That said, Todd and Yola have MASSIVE upcoming bills. Additionally, this is a challenging time for Ruthie and Priscilla, as you can imagine. Please prayerfully consider joining our family and me as we help them during their time of need.
These verses come to mind when I think of Todd and Yola and also those who support this special couple.
Philippians 1:21. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Matthew 6:19-20
Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Timothy 4:7-8.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Luke 10:27.
He answered, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
