Toby Hoskin Recovery Assistance Fund
Donation protected
Hi Everyone.
Sunday May 4th Toby Hoskin of Geelong, whilst commercial abalone diving, was struck by his boat propeller. The propeller drew his right arm in all the way from hand up to shoulder.
At this early stage and after just the first operation by a neurosurgeon, all we know is that other than the obvious lacerations, the bicep was cut completely off one end. Major nerves travelling down the arm are severed and the nerve ends are damaged and many of them can not be joined. Toby has no feeling in his right hand.
There are two more operations scheduled.
The specialists are saying it is too early to predict what level of recovery may occur in the long term.
Toby may or may not dive or work ever again. This brings us the the initial fund raiser.
For those of you that do not know Toby well. Toby has 5 children and pays rent on his family home. Because there is definitely no insurance in place at all, there is zero chance of any compensation or benefits.
There are immediate cost like food and rent, along with medical.
Rent is $650/week. Food @ $350 takes us to $1000 per week.
$1000/week for 12 months = $52k initial target.
We have set the target at $52,000 being a year of food and rent, but hoping that we surpass the target to cover some of the medical costs that will certainly be coming.
Greg Staples and along with a few of Tobys abalone diving industry friends, are running this page. Greg alone will be administering the funds.
A huge thanks in advance to anyone that can assist.
