Hi everyone! My name is Toby Bergmann and I just finished my second year of engineering at the University of Manitoba. Amongst what seem like endless waves of the COVID-19, I have personally experienced and seen people around me experience regressions in their mental health. Throughout this dark time it can be a struggle to find hope and happiness.
The Canadian Mental Health Association is an organization that is committed to facilitate the mental health of Canadians through the improvement of access to resources, as well as support in the difficult recovery from mental illness.
Running started as a tool for me to begin to fit in. However, it quickly became not only an outlet for stress and anxiety, but also a source of connecting with others. It became a way to build and foster positive relationships in an amazing community of people like those at November Project Winnipeg.
It was on my bucket list to complete a full marathon before I turned 20, and while I’m cuttingit a bit close, I am going to be running 42.2km on June 12, 2021.
This run is intended to raise awareness for mental health resources, and to hopefully spark some hope in anyone out there who’s struggled, is struggling, or will struggle with mental health. We love you and are happy you’re on this Earth.
