Toby Reid was tragically killed by a drunk driver in a car accident on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. Toby was just 20 years old. He was passionate about his family, scouting, sailing, racing, and photography.
Toby’s scouting career was a huge part of his life. He completed National Youth Leadership Training, Sea Scout Experience Advanced Leadership Training, and also earned the highest level of Sea Scout Marksmanship Awards in pistol, rifle, and shotgun. He was awarded his Eagle rank in Scouts in 2020, Sea Scout of the Year in 2023, the Sea Scout Leadership Award in 2023, and finally, his Quartermaster rank in Sea Scouts on September 2, 2023, just four days before his death. In his own words, “Scouting has given me many experiences, introduced me to new skills and has created a community of people that I connect with across the nation. Leadership training such as NYLT and SEAL has prepared me for interacting with others and leading in the workplace. Every aspect of my daily life at work or at home would be different for the worse if not for the values shared by Scouting.”
Toby loved to teach other scouts, especially about sailing. His biggest smile was always seen on the water. He was also an amazing leader in Troop 118 and Ship 15. Toby touched so many lives and had a tremendous influence on so many scouters. This world will never be the same without him, but the legacy he leaves behind will continue immeasurably.
Any shares on social media or donations to help his family cover expenses, as they are still reeling from the loss of Toby’s older brother Nathaniel just ten months ago, are greatly appreciated and prayed over. God bless.
Fair winds and following seas, Toby.
