Hi, my name is Julie and our 15-month-old bulldog Toady needs your help. Toad was pulled out of a California kill shelter by a rescue in November 2022 and was a bit of a medical mess. He was underweight, had no hair, was covered in yeast, had ear and upper respiratory infections and was overall in really bad shape. After the rescue got him the attention he needed, we adopted Toad on March 14th and instantly fell in love with him.
After light activity, we noticed Toad was having a hard time breathing. He would try to play with his new brother Warren or go for a walk and would have to stop after 30 seconds so he could catch his breath. We took him to our vet and were told he needed nares (nasal), and upper and lower airway surgery to help him breathe. He said his case was severe and described it as “like Toad is breathing through a small straw”. We also noticed that as he is trying to catch his breath, his tongue gets a light blue tint, indicating his lack of oxygen. Additionally, he needs surgery for a urethral prolapse that if left untreated could block his ability to go pee, causing him a potentially life-threatening trip to the emergency vet.
Toad just wants to run and play like a young dog should be able to do, but can’t. We are heartbroken many times every day when Toad struggles to breathe. We have already scheduled surgery on April 17th for Toad at Summit Veterinary Referral Center in Tacoma, Washington with an amazing surgeon that is estimated to cost between $7700 and $9100. Please consider donating to help Toad live his best life moving forward.
