To the Rescue: Help Volusia EMT Jeff Palmer

Donation protected
On Friday morning, March 12, 2021, EMT Jeff Palmer was driving to work for his light duty shift at Volusia County EMS Headquarters in Holly Hill, Florida. Jeff normally works night shift at EMS Station 83 in DeLand,  but was temporarily re-assigned to EMS Headquarters for light-duty work as he was still recovering from a Covid-19 infection and a resulting hospital admission. However, even with a respiratory capacity far from 100%, Jeff insisted on coming back to work in a modified role to help his coworkers.

While driving his Kia sedan southbound along Nova Road in southern Ormond Beach, Jeff had nearly no time to react as a full size pickup truck came spinning up and over the median from the northbound lanes, striking his car in an offset head-on fashion. The impact caused significant damage and compartment intrusion to Jeff's car and resulted in his declaration as a Trauma Alert by EMS providers at the scene. Jeff was transported lights & siren by ambulance to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

At the hospital, Jeff was diagnosed with multiple injuries, including: a fractured clavicle, internal bleeding, pulmonary contusions, multiple abrasions, and a C5-C6 fracture (shared with permission). Although Jeff has been in significant pain following these injuries, in true Jeff Palmer fashion he has remained in good spirits and has maintained a positive outlook as he begins the lengthy recovery process from this accident.

EMT Jeff Palmer has been serving as a first responder for Volusia County EMS for 12 years, and after he has helped countless others so far during his career, it's our turn to lend Jeff a helping hand. Jeff is known for his contagious smile, his positive attitude, his passion for golf, and his love for tacos. We ask that you please help in any way you can as we support Jeff and his family on the road to recovery.

[03/19/2021 - Update] After Jeff was discharged home, he was readmitted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for surgery for multiple clavicular fracture repairs. We have maintained routine contact with Jeff to ensure his well-being during the initial days of the recovery process. Jeff has repeatedly expressed great appreciation for the generosity and the well wishes shared on this page.
