To support Arthur’s Mum and Dad at the hardest time

My Name is Gill, I am creating this go fund me to support Ellie, Ronnie and all of Arthur’s Family. Arthur is coming up to his first Birthday but heartbreakingly has been in hospital since he was 2 days old. Arthur is fighting for his life every day, missing 5 Genes, needs a liver transplant, bone marrow and the genes he are missing will make him go blind in his teenage years, he is the biggest fighter but as a family and a young mum and dad, the emotional heartbreak on top of the financial hardship too, is the hardest thing for anyone.

Whilst dealing with this heartbreak the family are travelling to and from Liverpool to Manchester every day, Mum is still on maternity but Dad has had to leave his job because of the distance which is down south. The family are not just struggling emotionally but also financially.

I spoke to his Nan and I don’t think any of us until you are met with something like this we will never understand, life has to change and adapt but listening and feeling their pain and heartbreak whilst having to fight every day to carry on is just unimaginable but they do for Arthur.
This is a message about everything Arthur and his family are having to deal with the heartbreak since he was 2 days old

Help Baby Arthur Fight for His Life
On Monday, 27th January 2025, our world changed forever — we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Arthur Hughes, into the world. After a long and emotional wait, our hearts were finally full, and our little family felt complete.

But just two days later, on Wednesday 29th January, our joy turned into unimaginable heartbreak.

Arthur suddenly became critically ill. Doctors told us he might not survive the night. Our perfect baby boy was fighting for his life — and we had no idea why.

Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the doctors and nurses at Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Arthur made it through the night. He’s proven to be a true fighter — stronger than we ever imagined. He has since been transferred to a Specialist Metabolic Unit in Manchester, where he’s now battling a newly diagnosed, incredibly rare and life-threatening condition:

Ornithine Transcarbamylase Deficiency (OTC)
OTC is a rare genetic metabolic disorder, affecting just 1 in 77,000 children. It prevents the body from properly removing ammonia from the blood — and without urgent treatment, it is often fatal.

For Arthur, this means:

A life-saving liver transplant, once he’s strong enough.

&

Chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant to treat an immune condition called Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), discovered during testing.

Arthur is fighting every single day. He has already beaten odds doctors didn’t think were possible. But this journey is far from over, and we — his mum, dad, and extended family — are doing everything in our power to stay strong with him and for him.

Why We Need Your Help
Arthur is currently being treated far from home, and we face months (or more) of hospital stays, travel, and time off work. Any donation — no matter how small — will go directly to:

Travel expenses for Mum & Dad to stay near Arthur

Temporary accommodation and food

Bills and essential living costs during treatment

Support for Arthur’s ongoing care and recovery

We are overwhelmed by the love and support we’ve already received from our community. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.

Arthur has already shown us what a true little warrior he is. With your help, we can give him the best chance to keep fighting, to get home, and to grow up surrounded by the love of his family.

If you can, Please donate, share, and keep Arthur in your thoughts
Let’s help Arthur beat the odds.

With love and gratitude,
Mum, Dad & all of Arthur’s family

Thank you
