To See Again - Stephanie Carmichael

To See Again -

This is the woman who gave me birth, my mom, Stephanie Carmichael.  Today I share her story with you and the world to help her fund a treatment that will restore her vision so that she may see again.  I prayfully ask for your contribution to a light-pulse therapy treatment for her eyes costing $7,409.  Her story follows.

Overnight in July 2020, Stephanie woke up and through her right eye the world appeared as a kaleidoscope, except she doesn’t own one. Visiting the Cataract and Laser Institute, Stephanie was diagnosed with a shattered cornea.  The treatment was a $1,500 procedure using a medical membrane directly on her cornea to be worn for 3 days with an eye patch.  When the membrane and patch were removed, her sight was restored but only for the next 3 days.  At that point, her vision got bad again and was accompanied by severe pain.  Another visit to the Cataract and Laser Institute now diagnosed ulcers on her cornea, treatable with steroid drops that would require 6 months to heal.

Over that 6 months, Stephanie’s vision deteriorated further, and the pain intensified. Nothing could be done to alleviate the constant pain. The use of a heating eye pad throughout the day at work and during the evening at home dulled the pain a small amount.

At the 6 month recheck in January 2021, Stephanie did not receive the results she prayed for.  Not only did she find that both eyes now had corneal ulcers but that the Cataract and Laser Institute had no further treatments for her condition except a referral to a corneal specialist in Indianapolis, Indiana: Price Vision Group.

Stephanie was seen by Dr. Price himself on January 25, 2021.  Stephanie was advised that the only treatment to permanently restore her vision and remove all pain would be intense light-pulse therapy.  Hallelujah! The treatment requires 6 visits over 12 weeks with both eyes requiring treatment.  The only bad news was when Stephanie discovered that neither her vision or medical insurances cover such treatments. Each visit costs more than $600 for each eye, which is why I ask you to consider helping Stephanie.

Besides blessing Stephanie with such a gift, you should know that restoring Stephanie’s sight provides a gift to another.  Stephanie is one of the only people who visits her love: Bruce.  Bruce has been in assisted living since November 1, 2020 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Level 2, resulting from his catastrophic motorcycle accident a decade earlier.  Stephanie drives to visit Bruce and brings some happy and joy, along with his favorite snacks: Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Blueberry Belvitas, popcorn, and Oatmeal Peanut Butter Soft Bake Cookies.
