To Raise Money for an Airvo Machine

Donation protected

We wouldn’t wish it upon anyone to have a really poorly child!

We recently found out how hard it was mentally, physically and emotionally to have a small child who became really poorly really fast.

Thanks to the Airvo machine our sons hosptial stay has been made so much easier!

What happened:

Saturday Ollie woke up with a cough which gradually got worse over the day. Nothing unusual to as he has had bronchiolitis 5 times before but this time was different.
During Saturday night Ollie deteriorated fast to the point where he was coughing that much it was making him sick. We called 111 and before the lady on the phone asked any questions she said she was sending an amabulance as she could hear Ollie in the back ground struggling to breath.
The ambulance crew took us straight to a&e, on the way they tried Ollie which some oxygen through a mask which he was scared off so I had to hold the mask as close to his face as possible.
We got to a&e where we were met by a doctor. As he sat with us to discuss what had been happening he noticed Ollie wasn’t right so took us straight across to Resus which was a big room full of equipment. A few extra people came in to help one including a peadiatric consulatant. Ollie was struggling that much that he had start to turn blue. I felt him go limp in my arms and watched as the colour drained from his face and lips as they went to white then to blue.
Thankfully the consultant had brought through a lifesaving machine called Airvo which was placed on Ollie to help him breathe! He didn’t like it at first but you could see once he realised how much it was helping him breathe he settled down.
Ollie has been on Airvo since & will continue to be on it until his breathing settles and it’s less of a struggle for him.
It’s not been an easy journey so far but I’m thankful for the Airvo machine as I know it’s made it a lot easier for not only Ollie but for us too!

A bit about the machine;
World-leading respiratory technology

The AIRVO 2 system utilizes leading-edge technology to provide an effective and versatile solution for delivering Optiflow Nasal High Flow in all areas of the hospital.

It features a humidifier with integrated flow source that comfortably delivers high flows of air/oxygen mixtures to spontaneously breathing patients, through the unique Optiflow nasal interface.

Thanks to the machine Ollie was made to feel more comfortable as it helps widen ollies airways making it less of a struggle for him to breath! It’s two small tubes which go up his nose so no need for a big scary mask.
It has continuous warm oxygenated air & when Ollie needed a nebuliser they didn’t need to add an extra mask they just added it to a special attachment on the Airvo machine so it went through into ollies nasal tube.

The reason we have started this page;

Hull’s children’s a&e department have NO Airvo machines. The one Ollie was using had to be borrowed from elsewhere. I don’t think Ollies stay in hospital would have been as comfortable for him without the machine!

We over heard the consultant saying that they have no machines and that they cost around £3000 to buy but they are not given the money to spend on the machines. The consultant was going to set up a fundraising herself to try help raise the money for at least two machines if possible.

We want other children like Ollie to have an easier time where possible on their stay in hospital and I really think this machine has helped massively!

So we’re hoping that we can help raise enough money to be able to give to the children’s a&e department so that they can buy at least one Airvo machine which we know will help make a big difference!

Please donate and help make the difference to another child who needs it <3

We will be thinking of ways to help raise the money! Any ideas are very much welcome!
