On Sunday, June 29th, just two days after celebrating her 47th birthday, our beloved mother, Shannon, suffered a sudden and tragic medical emergency — an aneurysm — that ultimately took her from us far too soon. She was officially declared an angel on July 1st at 9:26 a.m. As we try to process this unimaginable loss, we are asking for help from our community — the same community Shannon gave so much of herself to throughout her life.
Shannon was more than just a mother — she was the heart of our family. She was outgoing, funny, full of light, and always the first to lend a hand. Even when she had very little, she found a way to provide for her children and open her doors to anyone who needed a place to stay or a hot meal. Her generosity, strength, and love touched so many lives.
She leaves behind three children who adored her deeply: myself, Ni’esa, her oldest daughter, and her two youngest — Galisia (13) and Marquis (12), who are still in middle and high school. Her passing has left an unfillable void in our lives, and unfortunately, Shannon had been unemployed, leaving no financial preparation for the aftermath of her death.
We are creating this GoFundMe to help cover remaining medical expenses, legal needs, funeral costs and most importantly, to provide support for her two youngest children as they navigate life without their mother’s love and guidance.
We are still awaiting final confirmation on the full cause of her passing, and we kindly ask everyone to be patient and respectful with the family as we wait for those answers. Shannon is currently in the process of giving one final gift through organ donation.
The funeral will be held Wednesday July 9th at 1 pm at Glenwood Cemetery on upper Main St in Oneonta. In the meantime, please hold your loved ones close and live every day fully — Shannon always said, “Only the good die young,” and now more than ever, those words ring heartbreakingly true.
Thank you for your love, your support, and for helping us honor our mother’s memory and care for the children she loved more than anything in this world.
With love and gratitude,
Ni’esa & Family
