I'm raising money to benefit Svitlo Education and any donation will help. Svitlo provides books, tutoring, and other educational opportunities to Ukrainian children in elementary and high school. In America, we hear about the most dramatic incidents in the war, but we don't learn about the day-to-day struggles millions of regular people deal with as their country tries to defend itself from the invasion. Many schools have been destroyed in attacks on cities and towns. In other places, children can't go to school because the invaders sometimes target large groups of civilians. Even kids who live far from the front line who can still go to school often have to seek safety in underground shelters, live without electricity, or go home early because of bomb threats. Many young people did not know what fear was until Russia started attacking their communities. Svitlo was created by a Ukrainian living in London who wanted to do something to help Ukrainian kids continue their education despite the war. The name of the charity means "light" in their language and comes from a student's comment about the positive role the program plays in her life during these dark times. Svitlo provides online tutoring sessions, study abroad opportunities, and "little libraries" (the first one was installed in a bomb shelter), but even more importantly, it provides a sense of community. Many kids can take their mind off the war, find kinship, and focus on their education while they participate in Svitlo programming.

You will feel good about helping these motivated young people cope with the war as best as they can and improve themselves so they can help build a better society when their country is finally at peace.
