Hey, my name is Mandi, and I am Randall’s aunt and Katie’s sister. Randall began feeling sick in December of 2021. After many tests, many doctor's visits, and a few trips to the Emergency Room, it was determined that Randall had Crohn's disease. Typically with Crohn's disease you have infusions every 6-8 weeks, and you feel somewhat like your old self. However, that was not the case for Randall. He had two infusions, but continued to feel worse. On May 17th, the symptoms worsened to a point they had not before. Randall was directly admitted to the Castle at Sanford, where it was discovered that he had a small bowel obstruction and a stricture caused by his Crohn's. The surgery was supposed to be routine and uncomplicated, and it was. The recovery was a different story. On Sunday May 22nd, Randall went from bad to worse. He became septic following surgery, and had abdominal compartment syndrome. He needed emergent intubation and his abdomen opened up to relieve pressure. Randall is still on a ventilator, and still medically sedated. Once they are able to get his abdomen closed, and off the ventilator he still has a long road ahead of him. He will need tube feedings, and an ileostomy for quite some time. Randall will also need physical therapy and occupational therapy to get him back to doing all the things he loves to do. Randall and his family would appreciate any help they can receive, as they have been unable to work while Randall is still in the ICU.
