To help heidi and her family.

Our dear aunt Heidi was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer 2 ½ years ago the young age of 48. As you can imagine, this was devastating to Heidi and her family. But just like how she approaches everything in life, Heidi tried to look for the positives and has faced this fight with determination, humor and a positive attitude. Luckily, Heidi was able to live the first few years of cancer without a lot of interruption. She was taking her medication that was “tricking” the cancer in her body from continuing to grow and Heidi was feeling pretty good. After a wonderful family trip to Hawaii in April, Heidi came home and started not feeling well. The doctors informed her that the medication she had started on was no longer keeping the cancer away and it was spreading to other areas. Heidi continues to fight. She has been in and out of ICU at both Mayo and Abbott where she is currently residing. She is hoping to return to Bay View rehab in Red Wing so she can eventually recover enough strength and get back home and spend quality time with Scott and Kate and her family and friends.

 

Soon after she got diagnosed, she had to retire as her treatment was not making it possible for her to work. Her husband Scott retired as well so he could help her at home and make sure she was able to get to all of her doctor appointments. Her entire life Heidi has been so generous with putting everyone and their needs before hers. She has been supportive for whoever needs a lending hand or a shoulder to cry on. She can spend hours on the phone or visiting with family and friends as much to put them at ease as to support herself. We also know she loves Facebook and keeping people informed and laughing (we are hoping these posts pick back up once she’s feeling better). People continue to ask what they can do to support Heidi and her family. With Heidi and Scott retired and Kate getting ready to start college in the fall, they could certainly use some financial help. Heidi wasn’t thrilled with our suggestion of doing this, as she is never one to ask for extra help, but we told her that people love her and want to do something to help her. And after helping everyone else all these years, it is now our turn to do something for her.

 

If you can spare a few dollars and support them as they continue to care for Heidi, the family has some immediate needs they are looking to address - a few modifications to their home including a new bed and vehicle that will allow Scott to better transport Heidi. We also want them to have a little extra “fun” money so they can do or buy things they normally couldn’t do.  We know everyone has their own needs, so we truly appreciate anything you can give as it all adds up. We want Heidi to continue to have love and support from all her family and friends and to not have big financial worries.
