Help Common Ground Theatre Bring Accessible Shakespeare to Every Corner of the World

Common Ground Theatre is a UK-based travelling theatre company with a bold and simple mission: to make high-quality, accessible Shakespeare available to everyone — no matter where they live or what their circumstances may be.

We’re raising £5,000 in seed funding to support the next phase of our journey, taking our work to rural, under-served, and eclectic communities across the UK and beyond. This funding will allow us to continue building a theatre model that is inclusive, sustainable, and artistically ambitious.

Why this funding matters

As a small, independent touring company, every pound goes directly into making the work possible. This initial £5,000 will provide crucial support in three key areas:

1. Essential Equipment

Touring theatre requires durable, portable equipment — from sound systems and microphones to costumes, props, and adaptable set pieces. Investing in reliable equipment ensures we can perform in a wide variety of spaces, from village halls to outdoor locations, without compromising quality.

2. Touring & Administrative Costs

Behind every performance is a huge amount of unseen work. This includes planning routes, coordinating venues, marketing shows, and managing logistics. Supporting administrative wages allows us to build a stable foundation that keeps the company running efficiently and sustainably as we grow.

3. Fair Pay for Actors

We are committed to paying our actors properly. Our performers are at the heart of everything we do — bringing energy, skill, and creativity to each production. This funding helps ensure that talented artists are compensated fairly for their time and expertise.

Making Theatre Accessible

A core part of our mission is keeping ticket prices low. We believe cost should never be a barrier to experiencing live theatre. By raising this seed funding, we can offset production and touring expenses, allowing us to offer affordable — and sometimes even free — performances to communities that might not otherwise have access.
