Hi my name is Cynthia. Let me please tell you my story about our broken healthcare system. I have suffered severe asthma my entire life. Due to this , I developed severe COPD over the years. Last year I contracted the RSV virus which virtually wiped out most of the function of my lungs. The disease is now too advanced for the doctors in Nova Scotia to help me. They have me on maximum medications, which include close to 100 milligrams of Prednisone daily, along with steroid inhalers and many other meds. As well I take a biological drug thats given every 2 weeks, which also has horrible side effects. I require daily VON care and daily IV breathing meds.My breathing is getting worse by the day as my lung function decreases. I am followed closely by my family doctor, a lung specialist, and allergy specialists. They have all decided they need to send me to see a Pulmonologist by the name of Dr Parameswaran Nair, in Hamilton Ontario, at St.Joesphs Healthcare Center. With that being said, I can no longer work and have completely lost any aide from MSI due to it being a clinical trial. I have written every government official I can to try and get some kind of help. Surely my life is at least worth the 20-30k I'm going to need? Sadly, after the first surgery, they took all my funding away due to the fact it's a clinical trial procedure. This was a last life saving resort for me. The only other option would be a double lung transplant which are hard to come by. Now I have no help at all from them after they assured they would help some, from the last one and none going forward with these surgeries. The surgeries have totalled more then 10,000 $ already ,between travel and hospital. I am unable to work and my partner has to work longer hours just to pay our day to day costs. MSI and the Government have given me a death sentence without their support.. To come up with the funds to get there with airfare and hospital expenses is impossible for me now. My partner works longer hours just to pay the day to day expenses now that I am unable to contribute or work. I am bedridden for all this ,so the burden falls solely on him.
These surgeries are vital in order for me to be able to breath normally, like so many people take for granted. I hate to ask for help but if I don’t come up with the funds I will likely end up living in a hospital on machines just to live and breath, so I’m doing everything I can to find the funds and get there to get my lungs fixed. I’ve been fighting this battle my entire life, but with recent damage, I feel I’m slowing losing the battle now. I’m only 48 years old and I'm not ready to die or live like an invalid on machines for the rest of my life. Please , anything you can donate, is one step closer to breathing without struggle. Thank you for reading my story and thank you to all those who have supported and continue to support my life saving cause. Please if you can't donate, share so I may have a chance to breathe easy again.
