Help Support Devin

Dear friends, family, and kind strangers, 

I would like you all to meet Devin. Devin is a bright 18 month old little boy who could use a little extra love and support. He was born with a severe form of spina bifida called myelomeningocele which is also associated with Chiari malformation type 2. This condition has affected his brain anatomy, nerves, and has caused low muscle tone. Everyday things we take for granted are not so easy for Devin. He has a tracheostomy and is dependent on a ventilator to breathe. He also has hydrocephalus (fluid in the brain) for which two shunts have been placed to drain the cerebrospinal fluid. He is unable to speak due to partial vocal cord paralysis, however, he is extremely clever and is already picking up some sign language! He also has difficulty swallowing, and gets all nutrition through a gastrostomy tube in his stomach. He will never be able to walk due to being paralyzed from the knee down, but is constantly working with his team to strengthen his muscles. Devin has a long journey in front of him but is one of the strongest and happiest little boys we know. Unfortunately, he has had a hard go of it recently, and was in the hospital for over 2 weeks undergoing intensive operations to save his life.  We are all so grateful he has recovered and is back home surrounded by his loving family and his team of home health nurses.  

I am running the Carlsbad half marathon (13.1 miles) on January 16th to support Devin,  and I would love for you to show your support.
